2019: Dear Minneapolis Precinct 5 First Responders, When your husband goes bump in the night

Dear 5th Precinct,

I get it is all in the course of a shift to step into someone else’s crises, but there is nothing “routine” about waking up to the sound of your husband hitting the floor in the middle of the night.

Within minutes there are at least of five of you in my bedroom with gear and gurneys.  Grateful he appears to be mostly ok.  Ken is moved to an ambulance for transport with me following behind in my pajamas irrationally calling our house sitter through my tears to ask him to come stay with the dog.

In no time you hand us off to the hospital ER and you are on your way without any opportunity to know your name, say thank you, give you a grateful hug… nothing.

I know this just “is what it is”, but I marvel at your calm and dedication to our safety.

So grateful,

Ann Simonds
