2010: Cecil’s Deli, A taste of home I never knew I needed
Most Fridays for the last fourteen years, my husband’s last stop before heading home is to pick up one of your delicious loaves of Challah wrapped in a paper bag marked “Rosenblum” set aside for his often-harried last -minute arrival. It is not only my favorite part of our Friday night Shabbat dinner- it weekly makes our house a home.
For years, the loaf was long gone before the meal was over. As our children began to leave home, we might have a precious chunk left over. Today, with just the two of us at home, we treasure it for days before the last piece is gone. Having it in my kitchen is way bigger than the joy of a slice it has become the taste of home.
For over twenty years I was in the food business, often with flour and baked products. I have tested, tasted and enjoyed all kinds of baked goods and traditional breads from all over the world. For me, nothing compares to your challah. I have tried to replicate it at home and simply cannot seem to master the unique, stretchy, eggy texture.
I simply wanted you to know that the weekly effort you all put into making this magical bread brings so much comfort in an often all too uncomfortable world.
Thank you,
