2019: Dear Jordan Casteel, A glorious final outing

Dear Jordan,

My Mom, Mary Hoagland raised us un Denver and loved witnessing your work and career.  She remained in great health most of her long life and we usually happily spent time with her at her home during our visits to Denver.

However, my last outing with my Mom in Denver was to see your Returning to Gaze show at the Denver Art Museum.  She marked her calendar the minute the opening was announced and reminded me often of our plans to attend before I arrived.  Jordan, it was one of the few, very few times her very spry and independent self, agreed to use a wheelchair to be sure we could fully engage in the exhibit.

Today, the catalogue from the show is displayed in my home so I can not only enjoy your work, but also thumb the pages with the memory of the joy it brought her to get lost and learn in a gallery show of one of her favorite artists one last time.

Thank you so much for the gift of your paintings and that one last glorious outing.

She interviews experts in fields pertaining to motherhood, mothers themselves and all-around heartwarming and thought-provoking folk whom she hopes will make everyone’s journey easier, fuller and more joyful.
