2022: Dear Mack McCarter, Making Caring Contagious

Dear Mack,

It takes heart and courage to step into strangers.  The pandemic, overwhelming divides and the brutal discord of our time muted my voice and my will to participate beyond my own close circle of family and friends.

The stories you and other brave community renewal champions shared when I saw you speak in 2022 were simple, creative ideas that we all are capable of trying.  Some of you just showed up in new places to offer hot dogs on a hot day.  Others began to support small businesses in a neighborhood to slowly build some trust and make new friends.

Today, there is still much work to do in my beloved Minneapolis, but I simply wanted you to know how much I appreciate having the memory of your gentle, caring and wise voice to bolster my own and remember to “make caring contagious”.

Gratefully,

Ann Simonds
