Yesterday: Dear Sami, Guardian Angel

Dear Sami,

I know it is rude to eavesdrop, but your skill as a welcoming and engaging bartender was amazing to watch.  You are friendly, funny and skilled companionship for whomever happens to stroll in and hop on a stool. It’s clear everyone has a place at your table.

I also witnessed you go out of your way to support two young women who may have been in a vulnerable spot.  I’m sure you have a front row seat to too many instances when a person is potentially put in harm’s way- spiked drinks, trafficking, substance abuse… the scary dark side of your chosen profession.

Thank you for the stark, smart reminder of how much we all still have to watch out for one another. Our world is lucky to have you behind AND out in front of that bar that can be a very fine line between celebration and tragedy.

It was such a pleasure to meet you,

Ann Simonds
